Mandre

A 4-minute RIB ride from the center of Šimuni takes you the Mandre site.

A wall begins to tumble down at a depth of 21 to 44 meters. The walls are home to numerous animals, such as eels, octopuses, and small sea-snails, and during spring and early summer you can see small-spotted catshark eggs. A large crack in the wall serves a genuine undersea home for brown meagres.

How the dive goes

The RIB ride from the center in Šimuni takes four minutes, so Mandre is one of the sites we can reach quickly. The wall begins to tumble down at 21 metres and continues to 44, and the dive is planned along it: you keep the wall on one shoulder, hold the depth agreed at the briefing and turn back toward the boat with air to spare.

The life here is in the wall itself, not in open water. Holes and cracks hold eels, octopuses and small sea snails, and one large crack in the wall serves as a genuine home for brown meagres. In spring and early summer you can also find small-spotted catshark eggs attached to the rock. An average dive lasts about 45 minutes.

Who this site suits

Mandre is an Advanced site, and the reason is the depth the wall reaches rather than any technical difficulty. There are no other requirements. A wall dive is simple to navigate, because you always have a reference on one side, but it does ask for steady buoyancy: with no bottom underneath you, a small mistake with the wing turns into a fast change in depth.

It suits divers who like to look into crevices instead of covering distance. If that is your kind of diving, plan a slow pace and stay close to the rock.
