About the site

Gorgonije

The red sea fan (Gorgonia) is a type of coral.

Although actually animals, they are described as petrified plants in local lore. This is likely because they resemble shrubs with extended branches, or, even more so, the hair of the Greek mythical creature Medusa (one of the three Gorgon sisters), who had snakes instead of hair on her head and who transformed anyone who beheld her into stone.

How the dive goes

The dive is planned around the sea fans, with a maximum depth of 39 metres. You descend, spend the planned time with the gorgonians and come back along the same reference, so the profile stays simple and the group stays together.

At that depth the no-decompression time is short, which is why this is a calm, unhurried dive rather than a long swim. If you dive with a camera, decide what you want to shoot before you go down, because you will not have long at the bottom. An average dive lasts about 45 minutes.

Who this site suits

The site is for Advanced divers, because of the depth. There are no other requirements.

The sea fans are the reason to come. They are animals, although local lore describes them as petrified plants, most likely because they look like shrubs with extended branches, or even more so like the hair of Medusa, one of the three Gorgon sisters the site is named after. If that is what you want to see, this is the dive to plan your air and your time around.
