About the site

Straško Shore

Small meadows of Neptune grass, countless yellow and brown sponges and near-shore fish, seahorses the most interesting among them, are hidden in the alternating rocky and sandy seabed.

The “Seahorse Story” project started at this center. It aims to protect seahorses with the help of divers. Read more about the Seahorse Story project on our website.

How the dive goes

This is a shore dive at our center in Straško, near Novalja: you walk in from the beach, so there is no boat and no fixed departure time. The seabed alternates between rock and sand, with small meadows of Neptune grass and countless yellow and brown sponges.

The maximum depth is 18 metres, which means a long, unhurried dive rather than a short deep one. Near-shore fish live here, and the most interesting of them are the seahorses. An average dive lasts about 45 minutes.

Who this site suits

The minimum category is Open Water and there are no special requirements, which makes this our usual choice for training and for the first dive after a long break.

It is also the home of the Seahorse Story project, which started at this center and aims to protect seahorses with the help of divers. Seahorses are why many people come here: they are small and they hold still, so you find them by looking slowly rather than by swimming far. That is exactly the kind of diving this site is good for.
