About the site

Kolanski porat

The bay is called Kolanski Porat because in winter the locals from Kolan used to bring sheep from the mainland to the island by boat.

The shallower part of the bay has many larger or smaller gaps that look like submerged neighborhoods of some sort of undersea city, and they indeed teem with life. From these rocks and crevices, the seabed’s topography descends into the depths, so this place is ideal for all categories of divers. At 24 m there is a Byzantine-era lead anchor stock that serves as a landmark for diving toward the ship and surfacing after the dive.

How the dive goes

The dive starts in the shallower part of the bay, where the rock is broken up by larger and smaller gaps. They look like the submerged neighbourhoods of an undersea town, and they teem with life. From those rocks and crevices the seabed descends into the depths, so the profile is yours to choose: stay shallow among the gaps, or follow the slope down.

At 24 metres there is a lead anchor stock from the Byzantine era. It works as the landmark of the dive, both for the swim toward the ship and for finding your way back up at the end. An average dive lasts about 45 minutes.

Who this site suits

Because the topography steps down gradually instead of dropping away, this place is ideal for all categories of divers. Open Water divers can stay in the shallower part among the crevices, while more experienced divers use the anchor stock as a reference and go deeper.

It is a good site for divers who are not yet comfortable on a vertical wall, and a good second dive of the day, because you can plan a shallow profile without losing the interesting part of the site.
